A disquieting little essay about the motivations of interstellar travellers. They’ve built a billion ton spaceship, travelled for decades, and we’re going to assume they’ll let us have Planet Earth to ourselves? With fusion-powered gigawatt lasers they’d be essentially unstoppable – think Wells’ Heat-Ray backed by fast and smart electronics to target our fastest projectile weapons. As Bender put it so well, “We’re Boned!”
